History of Meritor

Meritor's origins date back to over 100 years ago when Timken Detroit Axel first launched on Clark Street in Detroit, Michigan. In 1919, the company was purchased by Willard F. Rockwell to produce his axel design.

The Troy, Michigan headquarters were established by 1975 under Rockwell Automotive. The brand "Meritor" was born in 1997 when Rockwell International spun off its automotive business. Since then, they have acquired a number of manufacturing operations, including Volvo Trucks’ heavy vehicle manufacturing operation in Sweden.

Today, Meritor continues to accelerate its growth and develop its product offerings. In 2018, they acquired AA Gear & Manufacturing and launched the new technology brand Blue Horizon. This brand promotes advanced technologies in the areas of an electric drivetrain, efficiency, and connectivity systems.
